Basic ElectronicsCircuit basics
MoE-aligned sample unit — interactive introduction (curriculumresources.edu.gh themes).
An electric circuit is a closed path that lets electric charge move. A simple circuit needs a power source, conductors (wires), and a load (like a bulb).
Guiding question: Why does a bulb stay dark if one wire is disconnected?
Key components
- Cell / battery — provides energy to drive current.
- Bulb / resistor — uses electrical energy (light, heat, etc.).
- Switch — opens or closes the path.
- Ammeter — measures current (connected in series).
- Voltmeter — measures potential difference (connected in parallel).
Sort series vs parallel ideas
One path for current through all components
Current can split into branches
If one bulb blows, the whole string may go out
Homes often wire lights so one can stay on if another fails
Series
Parallel
Series = single path. Parallel = branches.
